Mystery Creek – Looking Back to Look Forward
The National Fieldays (once the Town and Country Fair) can trace its history back 50 years. That’s something to be reckoned with. At FarmChief, we also have a history that’s worth a look or two.
Like the Fieldays, we rapidly outgrew our old home.
Theirs was the Te Rapa Racecourse. Ours was the backyard of founder Peter Murray’s Innes Road, Christchurch, home where he set up back in 1975. (All great things have to start somewhere.)
What we definitely have in common is a commitment to the future of agriculture in this country and a willingness to innovate.
Peter Murray kicked off his career as a dairy hand. At the time it was not that well-paid, but, in hind-sight, it looks like a stroke of genius. He built up his agricultural knowledge, progressing to the workshop, as a diesel mechanic, and then on to tractor and implement sales.
Heritage is important to us. (The third generation of the Murray family is now involved in the company.) But so is looking ahead. A piece of number 8 wire is great but you usually need something to tie it to.
We’ve looked around the globe to find the best implements for the best farmers in the world. But we haven’t forgotten the importance of getting boots on the ground and listening to our farmers and contractors.
Some of the things you might want to check out on our site at Mystery Creek are the brand leaders in nutrient management, and cultivation innovations that will be changing the country.
So, if you’re in the neighbourhood, look us up at the National Fieldays. There’ll be about 130,000 people there, but we’ll be easy to spot at sites L4, L6 and L 8 – and we’ll be the ones with the free hot coffee.
So drop in and see us.
